General Knowledge of Vacuum-sealed Rice

As one of the staple foods, rice is consumed much more than others. It is common for each family to purchase rice. And vacuum packaging is a regular way of packing in the food industry, which can effectively prevent food spoilage caused by oxidation and microbial activity. Some rice will be packaged by pumping carbon dioxide or other gases into rice bags.

Owning the high barrier property, vacuum seal bags are able to isolate rice from oxygen, carbon dioxide and water. And they play a protective role to prevent the rice from being humid so that the freshness and nutritional value of rice can be maintained before it is opened. Except for the dust-proof and anti-insect features, good mildew resistance is also the characteristic of vacuum bags we pursue.

Although vacuum seal bags have excellent puncture resistance, rice is relatively hard and easy to cause friction in the transportation process so that air leakage occurs. Many people may suspect that rice has been spoiled or they have bought a fake. Actually, vacuum-sealed rice can be seen as a design of a "hibernation seal". Rice is capable of absorbing carbon dioxide and the bag will be compact like the state of vacuum after the absorption, effectively inhibiting the activities of the respiratory enzyme and catalase in rice, reducing its respiratory intensity and preventing the oxidation and decomposition of fat. Under this circumstance, the shelf life of rice has been extended accordingly due to the "hibernation". In the process of delivery and distribution, it's inevitable that friction or collision would happen and air leakage or breakage would occur because of rice's weight and accumulation. However, its quality and taste will not be affected, and it is still perfectly edible.

Once the bag is opened, the barrier effect of vacuum packaging will be negated. At this time, rice needs to be preserved in a dry container. And the taste of rice placed for too long is not as good as the newly brought one, and its nutritional value will decline. It is recommended that rice ought to be eaten as soon as possible to retain the relatively high nutrition.
