Are Avocados Beneficial to You?
Avocados, originated in Mexico and Central America, are referred to as the "butter of the forest", significantly featuring creamy smooth texture rather than greasy senses that may be brought by animal fats. As a type of fruit, avocados are very low in sugar and have no obvious smell except for a slightly grassy flavor, which can perfectly match with any other ingredients to make a great difference in the palate.
In recent years, with the rise of healthy diets, people have been enthusiastic about avocados for their nutrients. The rich unsaturated fatty acid contained by avocados is conducive to losing weight and reducing the width of waists, providing relatively high calories instead of excessive fat-causing substances. And avocados have the general effect of relieving inflammation and maintaining the health of blood vessels because of their high content of vitamin C and E. Therefore, they perform as the "energy representative" in modern healthy diets, becoming the indispensable ingredient in the salad of workout meals.
Avocados used to be seen often in Western cuisine. For example, they can be used to make the California roll with sushi rice, cucumber and nori, diced into cubes and stirred in the salad, or mashed and spread on the bread with solid taste. Nowadays, Chinese chefs have also added avocados to their dishes, bringing new ideas to our traditional meals and creating entirely new dishes.
How to pick an avocado?
Ripe avocados can not withstand long-distance transportation. So most avocados sold in the market are raw. Some people don't know how to tell whether an avocado is ripe or not. If we eat the avocado which was just bought from the supermarket, we will find that it tastes astringent and is hard to be swallowed. Hence, we need to observe the color of the skin first that raw avocados have a bright green color, while the ripe ones own a darker color. Next, we can gently press them. The riper, the softer. And avocados that are good to eat are those which feel slightly soft but not mushy.
